Colchester Daily Gazette 29 April 2024
John Akker, who describes himself as independent candidate for Mersea and Pyefleet, claims (Colchester Gazette and County Standard 26 April) he is shocked at Keir Starmer’s new housing plans.
Really?!!!
Only six weeks ago the same Mr Akker (who has previously been a nationally known campaigner for the Labour Party) had a letter published in both the Colchester Gazette and County Standard personally attacking me for even suggesting, in a letter the previous week, that Keir Starmer’s promise to put a “bulldozer through” our existing planning laws and stop local councils preventing major developments - posed a threat to Mersea and Pyefleet villages.
I notice his latest letter doesn’t actually say he’s opposed to Labour’s plans to remove local council’s powers to stop major developments – merely that he hopes they won’t build them here!
So, perhaps Mr Akker can be a little clearer and say whether or not he has now done a U turn – and is now opposed to the Labour Party’s proposed changes to our planning laws.
