Martin began his professional career in a challenging secondary modern school in Southend on Sea. He has held senior leadership roles in Education in both the UK and overseas, including helping establish a new sixth form college which significantly improved results in a deprived coastal town with failing schools. He has also worked in the university sector, including setting up a new course in research ethics which is now taught in more than 20 universities and colleges around the world.
